Job Description:
The Specialist, Systems Engineering 3 is an intermediate professional with practical knowledge of job area. Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area. Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. Identifies and addresses changes within own job area. Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results. Work consists of making basic adjustments to systems and processes to solve problems. Identifies, defines, and addresses general problems that are typically within the immediate job area. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experiences or standard procedures and basic analysis.
This role involves sustainment engineering support for the Trident II (D5) Strategic Weapon System. Responsibilities include fleet installation support, reviewing and responding to failure reports, and providing engineering test support. Candidates with prior Navy experience, especially those who were missile technicians, navigation electronics technicians, or submarine officers with SSBN and shipyard experience are highly desirable; such candidates will significantly benefit the company through their understanding of Navy terminology and the specific support requirements of submarine operations in a demanding shipyard environment.
Essential Functions:
- Support digital engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Conducting trade studies
- Generation of requirements specifications
- Generation of functional block diagrams, use-case diagrams, etc.
- Integration and test planning, including generation of plans and procedures
- Interfacing with the other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, project, etc.) to ensure proper coordination of the systems aspects of the project
- Generate and/or update drawings, parts lists, Engineering Orders, wiring lists, diagrams, and schematics
- Generation of Engineering Change Orders
- Creation and presentation of design review materials
- Verification of system interfaces
- Ability to travel, 5-10%, to various locations
- Work to influence others to accept individual or team’s views or practices and changes to concepts, practices, and approaches
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- An active U.S Secret Security Clearance is required on day one.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Direct experience working with at least one of the following technologies: Underwater Acoustics, Telemetry, Communications, Data Recording systems, and/or Radar
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative, drive, and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with DOORS requirements management software
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Prior Navy experience, particularly as a Missile Technician, Navigation Electronics Technician, or Submarine Officer
- Familiarity with the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapons System
- Proficiency with reviewing TFRs and TDENTs
- Experience with shipyard operations, providing technical support and interacting with various shipyard entities to ensure smooth operations and equipment installation
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance is highly preferred
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $92,500.00 - $171,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
