Job Description:
The Systems Development, Verification & Test (SDV&T) Engineering Department WPB is seeking an experienced engineer for a full-time position to support programs at the West Palm Beach, FL campus. The WPB SDV&T Engineering Department supports hypersonic and high-speed solid, liquids and air-breathing propulsion research, experimentation and development. This position reports to the Manager of SDV&T Engineering located in Huntsville, AL. The Sr. Specialist Engineer will work to conduct component and engine development and verification test planning and execution, ground test facility integration, and requirement verification reporting. The Sr. Specialist Engineer will support program testing from planning and estimating through testing and reporting phases. The engineer will work in a team environment to coordinate testing activities with all engineering stakeholders. The Sr. Specialist Engineer will lead various technical tasks and provide project management support. They will also provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
Essential Functions:
- The Sr. Specialist systems test engineer will lead and perform test planning through the capture of all test objectives to create detailed test planning documents. Duties will include test development and control of ground and flight test activities.
- The Sr. Specialist systems test engineer will integrate, develop and control special test equipment and test instrumentation. Duties include management, integration, analysis and control of test data and creation / delivery of the final test reporting.
- The Sr. Specialist systems test engineers will also lead and control Test Readiness Reviews and ensure test articles and facilities meet safety and test requirements. Duties will include developing test facility requirements, providing directions and oversight for test component / engine assembly and teardown activities and test article inspection plans and processes.
- As required, provide on-site customer technical support for engine ground test coverage and analyses, and system flight test activities.
- Significant test operations support will be performed requiring off-campus test support; willingness and ability to travel in support of offsite testing up to 30%.
- Manages complex projects or processes with general oversight.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelors' Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Systems Engineering or related technical discipline, and 6 years of experience is required; or a Graduate Degree and 4 years of experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience is acceptable.
- Candidate must be self-motivated, maintain attention-to-detail, and have good interpersonal skills to work effectively in team environments both virtually and in-person. Demonstrate leadership competency and solid communication skills, in both verbal and written are required.
- Must have an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance or higher.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Educational background and/or working experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and hypersonics.
- Knowledge and experience with liquid, solid or air-breathing high-speed propulsion systems, data analysis, systems integration and testing.
- Experience coordinating integrated teams for engine testing.
- Knowledge and familiarity with test instrumentation, equipment and data acquisition.
- Experience coordinating test planning and development of ground and flight test activities.
- Demonstrated successful leadership of small teams and small projects in a highly technical environment
- Preferred Graduate Degree in relevant technical discipline.
