Job Description:
This position will be responsible for providing accurate, timely, and cost-effective component technical support for the development, fabrication and delivery of Rotating Machinery components. This role will work closely with the supply base to manufacture hardware for use in turbo pumps, coordinating with team members from every organization to deliver hardware that meets the mission requirements on time and budget. The job offers exposure to many different engineering and operation disciplines that support the product.
Essential Functions:
- The Project Engineer works under general supervision and determines approaches to objectives demonstrating a complete understanding and application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices.
- Development and fabrication support for rocket engine components. Understands part models, drawings, and specifications, and is capable of explaining and interpreting these requirements to suppliers, sub-tier suppliers, and internal teams.
- Supplier integration with external suppliers ensuing requirements are achieved on time and within budget. Travel to suppliers is required and can be up to 25%.
- Coordinate and compile the technical dispositions of nonconforming hardware.
- Interface with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to provide coordination of technical, schedule, and cost solutions to team objectives.
- Analyze and verify product design and performance for adequacy and reliability. Support investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards or safety initiative activities.
- Develop specifications, trade studies, design concepts, systems integration and component-level test plans.
- Continuously improve the products and processes used by eliminating waste and non-value added work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- An understanding of project management principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of engineering, aerospace hardware fabrication, or manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of hardware fabrication, GD&T, dimensional inspection techniques, and Non-destructive testing (FPI, X-ray, etc.).
- Knowledge of turbomachinery operation.
- Experience with creating and maintaining level 3 schedules.
- Experience with Material Review for nonconforming hardware.
