Tasks to be Accomplished:
- Design mechanical tooling to support product build, testing, and repair
- Engage closely with machine shops and operations engineering teams in assembly and verification of new tooling, trouble-shooting existing tools, and procuring parts for prototype units once a design is approved
- Creating and/or updating 3D mechanical models in CAD programs
- Work closely with the customer to gain knowledge of project specifications
- Guide internal customers and make recommendations to tooling requirements
- Generate details, assembly drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) for new and existing tooling projects
- Create tooling procedures and user manuals
- Utilize the PLM application (Team Center) to control tooling documentation and commercial parts creation
- Provide “Design For Manufacturability” input to the “New Product Introduction” process, relating to tooling
- Ensure manufacturing process optimization, capacity utilization, and waste reduction
- Develop novel and innovative technical solutions to solve Manufacturing build challenges
- Assist with preventive maintenance activities as required
- Assemble and repair tooling and/or the coordination of outside services
- Mentor to students working in the Tool design team
Technical Skills Required
- Proficient user of FEA for static and dynamics analysis
- Working knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design GD&T standard practice
- Working knowledge of a 3D CAD system, preferably SolidWorks
- Applied knowledge in strength of materials and classical analysis methods
- Applied knowledge in machining and sheet metal manufacturing techniques and processes
- Applied knowledge in rapid prototyping techniques and methods
- Applied knowledge in Materials Science
Experience & Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience, or
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 0-2 years of prior related experience, or
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
