About the Role

Reporting to the Wescam ILS Manager, the Technical Writer will produce and maintain technical manuals for Wescam’s portfolio of MX-Series products and associated Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance mission system equipment.  

 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Produce technical content to support internal and external programs as required.
  • Implement updates to all publications to ensure consistency with equipment design.
  • Proof read text and illustrations as well as other documentation related to customer requirements.
  • Research documentation and develop data from system requirements specifications, design documents and SME interaction.
  • Support the technical publications input to bid and proposal activities by generation of task estimates, compliance responses and production of proposal material.
  • Final editing of manuals, releasing publication material using Team Center Product Lifecycle Management System.
  • Develop operations and maintenance manuals according to industry and Customer specifications and standards (US MIL SPEC, ATA 100, S1000D, DITA)
  • Develop effective business relationships with design and systems engineering staff for the purpose of generating and reviewing manuals.
  • Assist the Wescam ILS Manager in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide input into Technical Publications staff appraisals and annual goal setting.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the ILS manager

 

Required Capabilities 

  • Excellent written communication abilities
  • Strong mastery of the English language
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Adobe FrameMaker or other technical publishing package desirable
  • XML/SGML desirable
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office tools with emphasis on Word, Powerpoint, Excel and MS Project
  • Familiarity with Interactive Electronic Technical Manual implementation desirable
  • Able to read, interpret and translate engineering drawings, specifications and other technical documentation into operating and maintenance information for system operators and maintainers.
  • Familiar with Teamcenter or other PLM systems is an asset

 

 

Desired Education and Experiences 

  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant discipline and 4 years’ technical writing experience, or
  • Graduate degree in relevant discipline and 2 year’s technical writing experience, or
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 8 years technical writing experience
  • Practical experience of SGML/XML preferably to S1000D or other Military standards is preferred.
  • Experience within an ILS or technical publications environment is an asset.
  • Technical experience operating or maintaining complex electronic systems and equipment within a military environment is an asset.
