Primary Responsibilities 

This role is primarily for an IPC training facilitator.

The primary responsibilities are below:

 

 

Design

  • Design and develop instructional materials to support IPC training as required to better support future training and capacity requirements including but not limited to e-learning, micro-learning, instructor-led training

 

Facilitation:

  • Lead and facilitate IPC-certified solder training by communicating technical requirements clearly and respectfully to all trainees
  • Interact with trainees, and deliver training to employees at our current location in Waterdown in all departments that require it as per our business needs
  • Enforce standards and ensure training content aligns with current IPC standards and revisions
  • Adapt instruction to different skill levels while maintaining certification integrity

 

Evaluation and Competency Assessment:

  • Assess participant competency through practical soldering evaluations:
    • Verify workmanship meets applicable IPC acceptability criteria & document results and provide constructive, documented feedback on performance gaps

 

Certification Administration & Records:

  • Support organizational training administration via scheduling, coordinating, training history and certifications

 

Standards Interpretation& Guidance:

  • Clarify acceptability vs. defect vs. process indicator
  • Act as a subject matter expert for:
    • Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering
  • Escalate ambiguities or deviations appropriately

 

Process Support & Continuous Improvement:

  • Observe soldering processes and identify training-related deficiencies
  • Recommend improvements to:
    • Soldering techniques, Materials handling, and work instructions
  • Support root-cause analysis related to soldering defects

 

Audit & Customer Support:

  • Support internal and external audits, customer reviews or quality investigations involving IPC compliance
  • Provide evidence of:
    • Certified Personnel, Training effectiveness, and Compliance to workmanship standards

 

Safety & ESD Awareness:

  • Reinforce safe soldering practices, including:
    • Thermal safety, Fume awareness, and ESD controls
  • Ensure training covers all current applicable safety and ESD requirements

 

Professional Development & Currency:

  • Maintain own IPC Trainer/Facilitator certification
  • Stay current with IPC standard revisions & industry best practices

 

 

Secondary Responsibilities 

In addition to being an IPC training facilitator the secondary responsibilities of this role will be a training facilitator for the production floor as well as other duties as time allows.

The secondary responsibilities are listed below:

 

Analysis:

  • Consult with subject matter experts to extract job task knowledge and skill requirements to support training requirements

 

Research:

  • Research internal product & develop technical summaries (training aids / performance support)
  • Research / benchmark best practices for instructional methodologies and evaluation methods

 

Performance consulting:

  • Determine when training will be an effective part of a solution to drive business results, and partner with stakeholders to support business solutions

 

Facilitation:

  • Support & execute training activities including Structured-on-the-Job (SOJT), Functional and Technical Skills development, and Compliance and Mandatory training requirements
  • Responsible for delivering training material to targeted areas using blended learning solutions

 

Design

  • Design curricula to meet regulatory and organization requirements for targeted areas
  • Design and develop instructional materials to support a variety of learning transfer modalities including but not limited to e-learning, micro-learning, instructor-led training

 

Technical Support:

  • Stay connected to factory team & maintain product knowledge / proficiency via hands-on

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in training function continuous improvement activities for the business unit

 

 

Required Capabilities 

  1. Strong communication skills with proven track record of distilling complex concepts into simple form
  2. Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and relationship management skills
  3. Ability to influence without authority and gain buy-in for new ideas and approaches
  4. Knowledge of compliance standards and practices in relation to manufacturing
  5. Ability to manage multiple priorities, with independent and proactive work habits
  6. Solid capability using Microsoft Office tools with emphasis on PowerPoint, Word, Excel
  7. Multiple IPC certifications
  8. Experience in quality assurance function
  9. Experience working in a technical capacity in a manufacturing environment
  10. Leadership and / or project management experience
  11. Knowledge of adult training principles, instructional methods/techniques
  12. Experience in an AS9100 or similar regulatory environment

 

 

Education and Experience 

  • College diploma / University degree in technical, technology or engineering program (required)
  • Minimum of 1 professional trainer’s credential for IPC (IPC 7711/7721 (required))

 

 

*This posting is for a current vacancy.  In the province of Ontario, Canada, the pay range for this position will be $60,000 to $100,000
