About the Role
The Field Service Representative role is a dynamic, technically demanding position responsible for supporting advanced L3Harris WESCAM electro-optical systems in operational environments. Professionals in this role serve as the primary on-site technical experts, ensuring the reliable installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated imaging and surveillance equipment. The position requires a strong blend of technical expertise, adaptability, and problem-solving ability, as systems may be deployed in diverse field conditions and integrated into complex platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
Field Service and Technical Support
- Perform technical repairs to restore system functionality and operational readiness.
- Serve as a liaison between operational users and engineering/support teams.
- Support testing, validation, and verification of updated or repaired systems.
- Respond rapidly to technical issues to minimize system downtime in mission-critical operations.
- Operate independently in field environments while maintaining high technical and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot complex system issues in the field, escalating to Engineering or Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) teams when required.
- Provide timely and professional customer support via phone, remote access, and onsite visits.
- Accurately document repairs, service actions, and technical findings in ERP and support systems.
- Contribute field experience feedback to improve service processes, training content, and technical documentation.
- Provide after-hours on-call support on a scheduled basis and respond flexibly to short-notice travel or customer needs.
- Support any other business priorities as required by Technical Support Management.
- Assignments may include technical upgrades to customer-owned WESCAM systems and may require working with Systems Engineering.
- Maintain currency and skills in troubleshooting techniques for WESCAM products, Optics optical subassemblies or systems specialty a strong asset.
- Interface with WESCAM customers, directly or on the phone, while projecting a positive image of WESCAM that will meet our customers’ highest expectations for service and support of their WESCAM equipment.
- Flexibility to support customers outside of normal office hours and at short notice to support business needs.
- Up to approximately 60% travel domestically or international locations
Required Capabilities
- Ability to manage complex projects or processes with general oversight.
- Excellent communicator within and outside of own function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures.
- Strong organizational skills. Detail oriented; and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a Team environment.
- Technical background (preferably maintenance oriented), in electronics, electro-mechanical, electro-optical and video technology
- Extensive experience working with integrated systems in an engineering\maintenance capacity
- Must be able to travel extensively to US, and overseas
- Excellent customer service, and customer care skills.
- Ability to read and interpret Mechanical drawings, Electrical schematics, manuals and procedures.
- Good IT skills, experienced with Microsoft Office software, and other software tools.
- Familiar with ITAR and controlled goods regulations.
- Ability to obtain and hold the required L3Harris and customer security clearances
Desired Education and Experiences
- Requires proficient knowledge of job area.
- Skilled troubleshooting experience with electronics, optical, and mechanical systems. Ability to troubleshoot system faults to the component level and the ability to work with Quality, and Mechanical/Systems Engineering to take corrective action.
- May have practical knowledge of project management.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- A professional Trainer’s certificate or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with Government training standards, training related MIL-STDs, and UK-MoD Government specifications is desirable
- Experience in developing technical training courses
- Familiarity of E-Learning principles and technologies
- Multi-lingual is an asset
- Systems integration experience in an aerospace/ land/ maritime vehicle industry is an asset
