Job Description:

 

Perform various tasks and activities as a Senior Scientist, Project Engineer.  This leadership position requires agility, courageous leadership, and the ability to create a culture of trust.  This role requires the ability to engage and inspire, influencing solid business area decisions and needs, as well as strong skills with delegating and empowering within the teams.  Innovation and improvement is also necessary to ensure the Division and different Business Areas and company remains compliance committed, with key decision making, and is consistently seeking to improve the technical approaches and execution. 


This role requires an individual recognized as an external and internal expert and thought leader with deep and substantive technical expertise as well as advanced business knowledge and leadership capabilities. Communicates with contacts inside and outside of the organization on matters of strategic importance to influence executive leadership on new concepts, practices, and approaches. Establishes overall direction for new systems and technical solutions. Recommends and implements engineering strategies and develops operational plans/goals with direct impact to the achievement against functional strategies.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Work is guided by long-term objectives for the organization – typically two to three year goals. Responsible for developing technical volumes within Bids 7 Proposals along with programs for area of responsibility to ensure strategic objectives are achieved.
  • Communicates within and outside of the organization, which includes major customers or vendors. Works to influence others to accept team's view/practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. Requires ability to influence senior leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the function or organization. Recognized as external and internal expert and thought leader with deep and substantive technical expertise as well as advanced business knowledge and leadership capabilities.
  • Responsible for establishing the direction for systems, solutions, and products using significant conceptualization, reason, and interpretation. Solutions are innovative and often define best practice for the future. Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are regularly complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization. Extensively analyzes implications of both near and long-term implications of solutions.
  • Owns and develops tactical and operational plans and goals for a Division and business areas. Recommends and operationalizes strategies that have a direct impact on mid-to long-term business area achievements. Requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and ability to influence business decisions made by leadership.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Requires both advanced business knowledge and highest level of technical mastery in both fixed wing and rotory wing avionics integrations.  Leadership capability to guide business and large Engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline. Graduate Degree in a business or engineering discipline or a Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of Engineering (Systems & Aero Mechanical/Electrical/Flight Sciences), Manufacturing, Production, Test and Operational delivery product lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of all Engineering gates/stages, lifecycle, and phases (bidding/estimating, requirements, design, development, integration, test, and delivery)
  • Knowledge of data analytics, trend evaluations, and reporting
  • Proficient in Engineering Configuration Control and Change Management
  • Proficient in MS Office products

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of Foreign Military Sales, Direct Commercial Sales and Government acquisition processes
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-881 and standard Work Breakdown Structures
  • Familiarity with engineering management tools such as DOORS, Engineering Estimating Tools, Project Online, and TeamCenter
  • Experience in performing Risk & Opportunity analysis
