L3Harris MMG Division is seeking a Senior Aerodynamics & Aircraft Performance Engineer for our onsite facility located in Waco, TX. We offer competitive benefits and a generous relocation package for those who qualify.
The Senior Aerodynamics & Aircraft Performance Engineer will perform aerodynamics analysis and provide ground and flight test support for fixed wing and rotary aircraft to evaluate the effect of aircraft modifications on the vehicle performance, and to compute the effect of modifications on aircraft aerodynamic loads.
Seeking subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance & Handling Qualities.
Essential Functions:
- Perform steady-state and time accurate CFD analyses.
- Planning, support, and execution of Wind Tunnel Tests.
- Planning and support of aerodynamic design optimization studies.
- Perform comparitive analyses of predicted aerodynamics with experiemental and/or flight test data.
- Lead method and tool development and enhancement activities.
- Manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction.
- Communicate within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches.
- Make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products.
- Provide input into new products/processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results.
- Strong understanding of Applied Aerodynamics theory is required.
- Strong understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics and numerical methods.
- Ability to travel as necessary.
- Willingness and ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree (MSME, MSAE) and a minimum of 7 years of prior aircraft aerodynamics experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses, mesh generation, and post procession codes.
- Minimum 2 years experience in wind tunnel testing.
- Minimum 2 years experience with aircraft performance analysis.
- Must be a US citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with Pointwise, NASA FUN3D, and FieldView is preferred.
- Experience with store separation analyses and testing is desirable.
- Familiarity with civil and military airworthiness requirements is desirable.
- Experience in Matlab/Simulink is a plus.
- High performance computing administration is a plus.
- Experience in aircraft stability analysis is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, and have general computer knowledge.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
