Job Description:
The Over & Above Estimator is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and pricing work that falls outside the original scope of a maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, or production contract. This role supports accurate cost estimating, customer communication, and timely approval of additional labor, materials, and services required to complete aircraft or component work. The estimator works closely with engineering, planning, supply chain, production, quality, and program/customer teams to ensure all O&A items are documented, justified, and priced in accordance with contract requirements and company procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Review maintenance findings, engineering dispositions, inspection reports, and teardown results to identify over-and-above work.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for non-routine or out-of-scope repairs, including labor hours, materials, outside services, tooling, and subcontract support.
- Interpret technical data such as aircraft manuals, drawings, work scopes, bills of material, and repair instructions.
- Prepare and submit O&A quotations, change requests, and support documentation to internal stakeholders or customers for approval.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, supply chain, and quality teams to validate scope, pricing, and schedule impacts.
- Track estimate status, approvals, and execution to ensure authorized work is released in a timely manner.
- Maintain cost history, pricing databases, labor standards, and estimating templates to improve estimate accuracy.
- Analyze historical actuals versus estimates and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, customer requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies.
- Support audits, contract reviews, and customer inquiries related to O&A charges.
- Monitor turnaround time and prioritize estimates to minimize aircraft or component downtime.
- Assist program management and finance with forecasting, variance analysis, and revenue recognition support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in aerospace MRO, depot maintenance, modification programs, or military aviation support.
- Demonstrated familiarity with FAR/DFARS, government contracts, or commercial aviation service agreements.
- Demonstrated understanding of cost estimating methods, labor standards, and pricing strategy.
- Demonstrated experience working with customers, DCMA/DCAA environments, or contract change processes.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- A&P, or cost estimating-related certification is a plus.
