Job Description:

The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of equipment used to support aircraft operations. This includes mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. The technician ensures that all equipment is functioning safely and efficiently to support aviation operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on ground support equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Inspection: Conduct regular inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational. Identify potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
  • Testing: Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper functionality.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work. Update logs for equipment service and maintenance history.
  • Compliance: Ensure all maintenance work complies with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Technical Skills: Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Utilize various diagnostic tools and software.
  • Troubleshooting: Use problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex equipment issues.
  • Safety: Adhere to safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing training to stay current with the latest technology and repair techniques.
  • Communication: Coordinate with other team members and departments for efficient workflow.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. A technical degree or certification in mechanics, electronics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to travel with designated program; approximantely 80% travel requirement.
  • Previous experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in an aviation or aerospace environment.
  • On-the-job training or apprenticeship in ground support equipment maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic and repair tools/equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to diagnose and fix equipment issues.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure equipment is properly maintained and safe to use.
  • Relevant certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or specific equipment certifications.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to interface with other department representatives as assigned, to ensure manufacturing operations and project receive effective technical support.
  • Ability to perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Valid driver's license and potentially a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety standards and protocols.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and document maintenance work.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects up to 30 pounds, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions, with or without reasonable accomodation.
