Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Writer to join the L3Harris Specialty Engineering team. This role will support Technical Publications (TechPubs) development and maintenance throughout the lifecycle of a missionized aircraft system. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing technical publications, ensuring they meet industry standards and program requirements. You will research necessary design documentation, facilitate In-Process Reviews (IPR), and interact with stakeholders (e.g., users, Customers, maintainers), to ensure high quality technical documentation. This role requires exquisite attention to detail, exceptional analytical thinking, and clear communication abilities.
Job Description:
- Develop, maintain, and oversee technical publications for s missionized aircraft and systems development program.
- Utilize Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Illustrator to create and update technical documents.
- Ensure all documentation conforms to the established style and format. Familiarity with ATA iSpec 2200 is preferred.
- Create documents such as Operations Manuals, Component Maintenance Manuals, Maintenance Manual Supplement, Flight Manual Supplement (FMS), Aircraft Task Cards, and Flight Crew Checklists.
- Create technical illustrations or flowcharts depicting component disassembly/assembly, order of operations, and clarity of action.
- Create troubleshooting guides across the aircraft and mission systems and software.
- Write and maintain service bulletins, as required.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering teams (including software engineering), manufacturing, program management, and Customers to gather necessary information and ensure accuracy of technical content.
- Review and edit technical documents for clarity, consistency, and completeness.
- Manage document revisions and updates in response to engineering changes, customer feedback, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Reliability Engineering, Integrated Product Support (IPS / Logistics) to support the full Specialty Engineering Team and ensure continuity of data across disciplines.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to productively use desktop software applications such as MS Office Tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and related software tools, is required.
- Works effectively and efficiently in a virtual environment with tools such as MS Teams, etc.
- Proficiency in advanced Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Illustrator functions.
- Technical understanding of aircraft systems, communications and computer systems, wiring and electrical diagrams and engineering drawings.
- Technical understanding of complex optical systems or EO/IR systems is a plus.
- Experience contributing to Bids and Proposals and creating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Requires proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Applicant must have a willingness to relocate to the Tulsa, OK area.
- Applicant must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of Defense security clearance.

- ASD-STE (Simplified Technical English)
- Certificate or degree in technical writing, or related field.
- Knowledge and experience in the Aerospace/Defense sector.
- Experience with S1000D digital structured authoring standards (or similar HTML or XML tools) to publish with an Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) or IETPs environment.
- Experience or exposure to Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality (AR/VR) assisted technical publications and technical training systems.
- Experience in User Manuals, Software User Manuals, user interface / user experience (UI/UX).
- Experience working in an Agile or Scrum development team using Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
