Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team as an Electrical Design Engineer for Special Mission Aircraft. In this role, you will lead and develop electrical power systems for the integration of electrical/electronic equipment on the aircraft systems. In addition, program tasking can include development of electrical load analysis, design documentation, vendor coordination and supporting testing/integration of this system.
The Engineer will be responsible for research, systems integration, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. The Candidate must be able to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for leading an Electrical Engineering design through system requirements, design, analysis, test, hardware build, liaison and delivery.
- Defines and establishes the technical approach to meet assigned objectives.
- Ensure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process, procedures and program requirements.
- Prepares reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and present results to both external and internal groups, including leadership and customers.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other junior level employees.
- Able to travel to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft are required.
- Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant aircraft design experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related aircraft design experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with FAA (Part 23 or 25) or military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
- Experience using ECAD tools, preferably Siemens Capital.
- Experience with power systems, communications systems and various mission systems.
- A DoW Secret Clearance is required.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Ten (10) years of aircraft design related experience in defense aerospace industry.
- Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Experience developing secondary power distribution systems, developing aircraft communications systems, and familiarity with aircraft power systems standards like MIL-STD-704.
- Experience in electrical design using Siemens Capital. Willing to perform or participate in administrative duties for same tool.
