About the Role

The Sr. Associate, Manufacturing Engineering will be the primary technical resource supporting manufacturing engineering related matters for the optical assembly department in the Wescam, Don Mills facility. 

 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain new and existing manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment as well as related supporting documentation.
  • Designing and validating simple to complex tools to support manufacturing.
  • Identify, evaluate and source process and/or test equipment to improve manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide technical representation between product engineering and manufacturing.
  • Lead cross functional team in root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Participate in MRB reviews in dispositioning of any non-conforming product or components.
  • Support root cause investigations for production failures and yield issues.
  • Work with operations engineering NPI to support orderly transition of new products into production.
  • Work with department supervisor and cross functional cell team to support manufacturing in achieving KPI targets.

 

 

Desired Education and Experiences 

  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable working in a pressured and highly dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in problem solving, trouble shooting and RCCA.
  • Ability to work with and lead cross functional teams, including production, engineering, quality and management.
  • Proven track record of project completion and process improvement implementations.
  • Capable of programming small applications using C#, python, Labview, Matlab or SQL for data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and optical drawings, specifications and tolerancing.
  • Familiarity with optical equipment and metrology such as autocollimators, interferometers, profilometers and MTF.
  • Basic knowledge of optics, lens quality, and precision alignment techniques and how they influence image quality.  
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of optical design software such as Zemax or Code V for troubleshooting is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 requirements is an asset
