About the Role
The Coating Technician is primarily responsible the manufacturing of optical thin films deposited onto the optical elements in WESCAM MX-series product line. Additionally, he/she will work closely with the Front Line Operations Leadership and Engineering staff to support investigate day-to-day issues that arise in the Coating production cell.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operation of various types of thin film coating chambers
- Perform final preparation, loading and inspection of complicated optical elements
- Support the the manufacturing procedures and detailed instructions, using our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Configuration Management system.
- Participate in the Preventative maintenance of the coating chambers, Perform complicated maintenance, repair & troubleshooting of equipment
- Support the development of new manufacturing processes and make improvements to current manufacturing processes
- Assist and monitor training of new employees on all operations in optical coating.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Review requests generated by engineering and production staff, and guide the implementation changes as required by operations leaders.
- Support regarding equipment upgrades, metrology services, and consulting for process developments/improvements.
- Support other business needs related to the Coating production cell required by Operations leadership and Operations Engineering.
- Able to collaborate and communicate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.
- AS9100 and Mil-Std knowledge and experience is required.
- Support the design of new tooling and fixtures for elements, chambers, and equipment
- Participate in and prepare chambers for New Product Introduction (NPI), providing feedback to designers to improve manufacturability of coatings.
Job Requirements
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in thin film coating manufacturing in a team environment.
Desired Education and Experiences
- University degree in Physics or related field (e.g., Materials Science).
- Solid understanding of the principles of the Optical vacuum chambers & Optical thin film manufacturing
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles an asset but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret optical drawings.
- Knowledge of AS9100 and MIL standards an asset.
