Commencing in September 2026, this apprenticeship programme combines on-the-job learning in our Manufacturing team alongside the completion of a Level 3 Manufacturing and Engineering Technician Apprenticeship with Gloucestershire Engineering Training (GET). 

Your first year will be spent in college full-time, with shut down periods spent in the workplace. Thereafter, you’ll attend college one day per week with the remaining time spent on site. In the workplace your primary focus will be to assemble and test L3 Harris Technology’s product ranges to a defined demand plan in accordance with build/test instructions. Key aspects of the role that you will gain insight into during your apprenticeship:

  • Following technical drawings, Bills of materials, work instructions, and assembly diagrams to build electronic components and products
  • Learning quality standards within manufacturing such as IPC (Institute of Printed Circuits)
  • Using testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, automated test rigs) to test and inspect finished products
  • Supporting process improvements (lean manufacturing, reducing waste)
  • Understanding how products are designed and manufactured
  • Working alongside engineers and technicians to build skillset

 

The role will support the full product lifecycle from New Product Introduction (NPI) through to in-service repair and ensure our products perform in the harshest of environments. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you’ll undertake a full-time, permanent position within our Manufacturing team to put your newly acquired skills into practice.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Assembling and Testing of L3Harris Technology’s products
  • Troubleshooting and fault finding of Electronic and Electro-Mechanical Assemblies
  • Working in line with approved processes and procedures, ensuring all product is right first time
  • Assisting Manufacturing and Engineering with prototype assembly, test and new product introduction
  • Assist in the identification of root causes, along with suggesting corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Ensure accurate completion of records in line with the L3Harris Quality Management System
  • Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and ethics codes of conduct.

 

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 9-4, which must include Maths, English and a Science subject.
  • Able to follow instructions and possess strong attention to detail, using initiative and logical approach to solve problems
  • Exemplary organisation and time-management skills, to balance work and study
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team, demonstrated by extra-curricular activities or group project work
  • Resilience and adaptability to solve challenging problems in a fast-paced environment
  • High proactivity and motivation levels to maintain strong academic and workplace performance
  • Ideally an interest in technology
