Job Description:

Performs a variety of engineering work in the design, development, control, integration, and maintenance of complex electro-optical assemblies related to night vision imaging and display systems. Emphasis will be on embedded computing and firmware development for controlling the hardware using real time operating systems. Work may also involve related automation of production and testing processes for the night vision devices, as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and other departmental engineers to coordinate project requirements and communicate status
  • Charter and lead projects to design embedded hardware and software/firmware controls as assigned
  • Estimate, negotiate, monitor, and report software and hardware integrated design and development, test and evaluation, and qualification schedules
  • Create various types of documentation (for use in production) using a variety of tools, including engineering CAD and production review and release
  • Professionally and effectively communicate. 
    • Written - use of multimedia tools for briefings, ability to write procedures and reports.
    • Verbal - ability to provide briefings in small to medium size groups of technicians, engineers, and management
  • Conduct research and development activities concerned with the design, build, and testing of embedded control systems, automated system test, monitoring, and control.
  • Build and test prototypes of proposed integrated hardware/firmware control systems. This includes design and integration of electronic components and related test systems, as assigned.
  • Oversee special projects, purchase required materials, assemble, and verify operation, and coordinate validation testing in production environment.
  • Ownership of all software/firmware and related hardware documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience using LabView, C#, or Python.
  • Experience in troubleshooting control system issues.
  • Experience with software/firmware development on an embedded micro-controller system.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Effectively establish rapport and develop effective relationships
  • Experience with FPGA
  • Bachelor’s degree in a hard science, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, or similar field
  • Experience with integrating both hardware and embedded firmware/software development
  • In-depth knowledge and application of engineering principles and concepts
  • Experience on teams responsible for configuring and designing systems for sensing and hardware control from concept, bench level proof of concepts using evaluation kits, detailed application-specific design, and through to production
  • RTOS "Real Time Operating System", control loop implementation, and FPGA "Field-Programmable Gate Array" coding experience​​​​​​​
