Job Description:

 

Develops, implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects and communicates them to internal and external customers. Defines, develops and transfers manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies and systems. Develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes. Actively participates with engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products. Estimates and tracks manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.


The candidate will perform a variety of engineering work in the development, improvement, and optimization of multiple processes and techniques, including vacuum deposition of inorganic and metallic films, glass processing, chemical etching and handling, robotic material handling, materials analysis, and characterization. The work will include improving and optimizing current processes, implementing new tooling, improving existing tooling, and creating robust technical documentation on existing processes and tooling.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Under limited general direction, determine approaches to objectives and the application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices to problem solving in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement projects, execute design and development actions, and work directly with manufacturing operators.
  • Implementing manufacturing standard work and best practices to improve operational metrics.
  • Use Lean Manufacturing tools to analyze and design production workflow, work stations and area layout to reduce ergonomic strain
  • Perform a variety of engineering work in the development, improvement, and optimization of multiple processes and techniques utilized in the manufacture of image intensifier tubes, including vacuum deposition of inorganic and metallic films, glass processing, chemical etching and handling, materials analysis, and characterization. 
  • Work with existing and legacy equipment
  • Scope, manage, and implement tooling/capital projects
  • Engineer and optimize chemical production processes
  • Complete technical writing and training related tasks
  • Coordinate with maintenance group for equipment upkeep and training
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills
  •  Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering background preferred 
  •  Hands-on experience with deposition tooling
  •  Experience with legacy tooling, code, and equipment
  •  Robust project management and technical writing skills
  • Ability to communicate project status and risks to leadership team
  • Experience in different surface engineering for metals, glasses, and intermetallic materials
  • Experience with heat treatment of different metal alloys and glasses
  • Expertise in making data driven decisions to improve and develop processes
  • Experience using DFM, Six-Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Experience using DMAIC process and associated tools
  • Experience with using statistical software (e.g. Minitab)
  • Experience using SQL
