Job Description:
Join L3Harris as a Specialist Embedded Firmware Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in the design and development of digital overlay displays connected to Night Vision (NV) modules. In this highly visible position, your expertise will lead the way in developing, integrating, and deploying sophisticated firmware solutions that power our next-generation optical systems.
Essential Functions:
- Advance with R&D: Conduct groundbreaking R&D related to digital displays, optical/embedded systems, and cutting-edge electro-optical test equipment.
- Prototype and Innovate: Design, prototype, and validate electro-mechanical and robotic process control systems, including integrating electronic and optical components.
- Hands-On Development: Take ownership of the development, integration, debugging, and rigorous testing of our embedded firmware and related software products.
- Lead Exciting Projects: Drive the complete software development lifecycle from R&D into innovative embedded systems—by defining requirements and architecting solutions to implementation and successful deployment in real-world applications.
- Collaborate for Success: Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Equipment Engineering Managers and departmental engineers, to ensure project success and clear, ongoing communication.
- Project Management: Oversee critical projects—purchase materials, lead builds, coordinate validation testing, and ensure production readiness.
- Champion Documentation and Communication: Clearly document software designs and produce effective reports and multimedia presentations. Share technical insights in meetings with technicians, engineers, and management.
- Engage in Continuous Improvement: Participate in daily and weekly project reviews to drive progress, solve challenges, and celebrate wins as a team.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4 years prior experience in process development, 2 year post-secondary/AA Degree and 8 years prior experience or Graduate Degree with 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- 2+ years of experience developing SW and board bring-up for embedded microcontroller systems
- Experience working with C/C++, data structures and inter-process communications
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Proven ability to lead complex software or firmware projects for embedded systems
- Strong experience in digital IO, electronic/optical integration, and system-level software design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including producing clear technical documentation and delivering effective presentations
- Collaborative spirit with an enthusiasm for innovation, hands-on development, and continuous improvement
