Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Manager of Public Relations is responsible for strategic communication planning to drive positive engagements with media and target stakeholders to support the Space and Mission Systems segment of L3Harris Technologies’ strategic growth objectives. This position leads and collaborates across the marketing and creative division of the team to deliver best-in-class public relations activities within an integrated communications approach to influence external stakeholders. This role is both strategic and hands-on including managing one direct report and a retained PR agency of record. The Senior Manager of Public Relations must be a proactive self-starter who has a clear understanding of working with media and can create/execute well-thought-out strategic communication campaigns/plans that will lead to creative external storytelling. You will work with business leaders to identify program milestones and business priorities and then create narratives to help spread the word on leading technologies L3Harris develops. As part of the Marketing and Communications team, you will work cross-functionally to ensure effective internal and external collaboration and alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
Essential Functions:
• Develop and implement SMS PR strategy to drive interest and engagement with media and other target stakeholders
• Proactively position leadership for thought-leadership opportunities with key media
• Partner with Marketing to gain a clear understanding of business objectives, initiatives, and priorities
• Lead SMS public relations synchronization meetings/efforts to manage oversight and influence across the business segments for communication opportunities to reach targeted stakeholders
• Collaborate effectively with sales, business development, and program management to identify newsworthy areas that support business efforts
• Collaborate with our Creative Services group to proactively seek out creative ways to share our narrative through visual storytelling
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to leverage social media to advance our narrative
• Perform analytic reporting to measure effectiveness of your efforts
• Work with cross-functional, cross-site teams with a goal to provide consistent, effective communication
• Prepare leadership for media interviews and presentations
• Provide leadership, issues/crisis, and other communications support as needed
• Monitor industry trends; recommend best-practice media strategies and tactics
• Direct small team of PR professionals and agency
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, PR, or related field with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience; Or, Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience; Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 16 years of prior related experience
• 10+ years’ experience in marketing, communication, and digital experience within a corporate or agency environment or prior corporate/government communications, PR agency, or journalism experience
• 10+ years’ experience in communicating highly technical concepts, products, or services
• Experience with AP Style and social media platforms
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Experience working within the aerospace and defense industry
• Ability to create original and engaging content based on highly technical products and information
• Aptitude for learning and understanding technical products and industry-related concepts quickly
• Ability to effectively prioritize projects and manage expectations of deliverables while working independently
• Excellent writing, editing, verbal, and presentation creation skills
• Ability to translate business/market/management concepts into understandable messages and stories
• Sharp media relations/crisis communications instincts
• Ability to generate positive Tier 1 business/trade media coverage
• Able to operate/meet deadlines in a fast-paced, demanding environment
• Strong attention to detail and excellent AP Style knowledge
• Comfortable working across all staff levels and business functions
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C. area, Denver, or NYC areas is $126,000-$234,000. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is $109,500-$203,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
