Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Materials Engineer Intern. This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facility’s (AMF) Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory and will be responsible for supporting the lab’s functions of conducting tests to support material acceptance testing, material shelf-life extension testing, and inert materials characterization. This position will also aid in laboratory operations such as 5S+1, workflow maximization, and equipment management. This position will report to the Materials and Processes Engineering AMF Laboratory Manager in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
• Test non-metallic materials using a variety of measurement instruments and equipment such as balances, ovens, hotplates, spectrometers, DSC, thermal testing equipment and SEM.
• Fabricate, cure, and inspect non-metallic materials test panels as needed, utilizing equipment such as ovens, caul plates, hydraulic presses, and autoclaves.
• Assist chemists with general wet chemistry processes.
• Conduct testing according to ASTM/MIL/ISO etc standards, standard work documents, and custom work requests.
• Measure specific properties and record the data, performing calculations to generate a report, according to material specification requirements.
• Assist investigations in production and development programs, suggesting specific relevant testing, and carefully presenting the extent of information gained.
• Communicate with members from other teams and departments to facilitate work and assist with enterprise test efforts.
• Maintain laboratory readiness and cleanliness through 5S+1, kitting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or appropriate discipline
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $25/hr-$47.50/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
