Job Description:

We are seeking a Quality Specialist with mechanical engineering skills to join our team at our State College, PA location.  This individual will provide program Quality Engineering support for assigned contracted programs spanning the complete program lifecycle including design, development, production, test and supplier support.  Successful candidates will have a technical background with experience in quality, electro-mechanical assembly, and machined part fabrication.  This role requires the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Implement quality policies, procedures and standards that drive a preventive, zero defect culture of quality, supplier excellence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in design reviews to identify and correct inspect-ability and producibility issues and opportunities early in the product life cycle. Evaluate work products and services, including evaluation and approval of new and changes to released work authorization documents and project technical documentation (e.g. drawings, plans, and work authorization documents).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including evaluation of tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
  • Provide Quality Engineering support to the production floor and coordinate the entire Quality effort including QC hardware inspection, QC records maintenance, receiving inspection and shipping inspection. 
  • Facilitate Part/Process Qualification through review of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), and APQP (advanced product quality planning). 
  • Lead the internal Material Review Board (MRB), including segregation and control of nonconforming hardware to preclude inadvertent processing, disposition nonconforming hardware, prepare for and conducting board meetings, and implement disposition decisions and effectivity plans.
  • Initiate and drive root cause corrective and preventative action (RCCA) activity both in-house and at suppliers.
  • Conduct quality metrics evaluations, including Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) evaluations and trend analysis to facilitate continuous improvement efforts and cost reductions.  Develop input for and participate in monthly Operations Program Review and customer program reviews.
  • Collaboration with Supply Chain and Material Management for program needs
  • Ability to obtain US Government Secret Clearance

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Knowledge of fabrication technologies and techniques
  • Experience using a Faro Arm to determine mechanical dimension adequacy
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 / AS9100 quality management systems; experience with Internal & External Auditing
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, Corrective & Preventive Action, and Root Cause Analysis
  • Ability to perform technical problem-solving and work closely with production personnel and engineering.
  • Comfortable in collaborative, fast-paced environment
