Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Tier 3 Linux Engineer to provide enterprise-level support for mission-critical systems supporting national security operations. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team responsible for ensuring availability, stability, and performance across a diverse fleet of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based systems in a secure environment.
This position supports the Space Superiority Business within the Space Systems sector of the Space and Airborne Systems segment and requires a strong foundation in Linux system administration, automation, and troubleshooting in high-availability environments.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as the final escalation point for Linux-related system issues in a mission-critical, classified environment.
- Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot RHEL-based servers in virtual and physical environments.
- Support patch management, OS upgrades, kernel tuning, and security hardening per DoD STIGs and organizational policies.
- Leverage configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) to automate system deployments and updates.
- Support integration of Linux systems with identity services (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory) and enterprise tools.
- Perform root cause analysis, generate technical documentation, and provide recommendations for long-term solutions.
- Collaborate with security, networking, storage, and application teams to resolve cross-domain issues and ensure system compliance.
- Participate in on-call rotation and support planned maintenance after hours as required.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Active adjudicated Top Secret/SCI Clearance is required and ability to obtain a CI Polygraph.
- RHCSA certification (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or equivalent is required.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CySA+, GSEC) is required.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- RHCE or higher-level Red Hat certifications.
- Experience managing RHEL 7/8/9 in secure, air-gapped environments.
- Familiarity with satellite server management and repository mirroring in disconnected environments.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar for automation and tooling.
- Experience with SELinux, firewalld, auditd, and other security modules.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM), SAN/NAS storage, and networking principles.
- Familiarity with STIG compliance, DISA SRGs, and hardening tools such as OpenSCAP.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado is $90,500 - $168,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
