Job Description: 

As a Specialist, Mechanical Engineer specializing in thermal systems, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and optimizing cutting-edge thermal management solutions for advanced mechanical systems and components. Your expertise will be critical in performing detailed thermal analyses and simulations to ensure efficient heat transfer, thermal stability, and overall system reliability. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive innovation in thermal solutions, addressing complex thermal challenges through advanced modeling, testing, and validation. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the entire thermal lifecycle of products, from conceptual design through to production and deployment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Proficiency in thermal analysis software, a deep understanding of heat transfer mechanisms, and strong analytical skills are essential for excelling in this role.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Design and develop advanced thermal management solutions for mechanical systems and components.
  • Create detailed thermal models and simulations to predict heat transfer and thermal behavior.
  • Perform detailed thermal analyses using software tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar.
  • Assess thermal stability, heat dissipation, and thermal efficiency of designs.
  • Optimize heat transfer mechanisms, including conduction, convection, and radiation, to ensure efficient thermal management.
  • Select appropriate materials and components based on thermal properties.
  • Develop and execute thermal testing procedures to validate system performance.
  • Use thermal measurement techniques and instrumentation, such as thermocouples and infrared cameras.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex thermal issues during the design, development, and deployment stages.
  • Implement solutions to address thermal challenges and improve system reliability.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and testing, to integrate thermal solutions seamlessly into products.
  • Communicate thermal analysis findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, including thermal analysis reports, design specifications, and testing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of thermal testing and validation activities.
  • Ensure thermal designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Stay updated on best practices and advancements in thermal engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Share expertise and best practices in thermal engineering to support team development.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience developing thermal solutions for mechanical systems
  • Professional experience working with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, as well as project managers and customers.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in leading technical teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience evaluating requirements and writing technical proposals
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to thermal engineering and thermal management (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO, IEEE).
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information and thermal analysis findings to stakeholders.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $87,000.00 - $161,000.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
