Job Description:

As an individual contributor, you will function as the responsible Mechanical Engineer on programs and internal development projects. Responsible for the design, layout, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and/or systems for space and airborne products. Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval. Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. The position focuses on integrating electronic components into mechanically robust assemblies that support thermal, environmental, weight, and size requirements, while working with a cross-functional team to solve practical engineering challenges.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Own all aspects of the mechanical design for products under your control.
  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate complicated mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-systems, and systems.
  • Work closely with Designers and Drafters to maintain Engineering models and detailed drawings.
  • Work with Configuration Management to maintain all design documentation.
  • Work multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Provide support for existing product designs through the production cycle by incorporating engineering change orders (ECO).
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

 

Required Qualifications (one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Electronic packaging experience for space and/or airborne environments.
  • CAD proficiency using SolidWorks or CREO.
  • Understanding of industry standards including ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices), and their application techniques.
  • Experience with random vibration and shock mechanical testing and validation in accordance with MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience conducting structural and/or thermal finite element analysis (FEA) using software tools such as SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, Nastran, Flotherm, etc.
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience.
  • Experience with ECAD-MCAD translation.
  • Knowledge of PCB layout and design practices and standards.
  • System development considering machine design and theory of mechanisms, thermal design considerations, and materials selection for demanding environments and applications.
  • Knowledge of mechanical part fabrication processes.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $76,500 - $141,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
