Job Description:

This engineering position requires the ability to design and document complex electromechanical interconnect assemblies using CAD and other PC-based design tools.

 

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include all aspects of interconnect design, including work with traditional multi-conductor cables, fiber optic cables, RF cables, high speed data cables, and flex circuits.  Knowledge of different connector types and backshells, especially military, is desirable.  The candidate will work closely with other engineering disciplines to define the system signal requirements, and review design solutions.  Previous experience with military cables and requirements is a plus.  Responsibilities include all aspects of cable design such as meeting environmental, signal integrity, EMC/EMI, and other manufacturing requirements.  Successful candidates will be members of a highly motivated, multi-disciplined, cross-functional design engineering team chartered specifically to champion interconnect engineering.  Due to the nature of our work this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree ((Mechanical, Electrical, RF, Manufacturing, etc.) and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. 

 

Preffered Additional Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with 3D and 2D CAD is desired, Siemens NX preferred.
  • One year experience with a schematic capture program is desired, Capital Logic preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical designs, including material and component selection for cables is desired.
  • Ability to create cable designs that meet specifications such as SAE AS50881, MIL-STD 810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160.
  • Knowledge of commonly used signal types such as RS232, RS422, RS485, Audio, Ethernet, Fiber Optic Single Mode and Multi-Mode and High Frequency RF is desired.
  • Experience defining and selecting a variety of connector types is desired.
  • Experience with DFX (Design for Excellence) is desired.
  • The candidate must be able to work cooperatively with various internal and external customers, including engineering, operations, vendors, and customers.
  • The candidate must also be able to prepare and present design solutions and trade studies to internal and external customers using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • The ability to read and understand electrical schematics is necessary.
