Job Description:
L3Harris is currently seeking a Specialist power electronics design engineer who will join the design team to contribute to the growing power conversion circuit card design needs. The designer will apply their knowledge designing low and high voltage, high frequency switch mode power supplies under the supervision of a senior power electronics engineer. The individual must work with other engineering disciplines to ensure power supply designs meet the power, thermal, emissions and safety requirements of the system requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Design AC/DC and DC/DC power converters.
- Design and analyze EMI filters.
- Ability to generate power distribution architectures.
- Proficiency in simulation and analysis of analog/power circuits for stability, efficiency, power draw, in-rush, etc.
- Confident in writing and reviewing specifications and test approaches for power supply circuit designs.
- Able to select and design magnetic components for discrete power converter designs.
- Create schematics for analog/power circuits, support printed circuit card design.
- Conduct and participate in internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering units and oversight of design into production.
- Perform analog and power testing in a laboratory setting for development components and circuit cards.
- Work in conjunction with multi-disciplinary engineering teams for digital, RF, mechanical and systems engineers on the overall program/project performance.
- Ability to track milestones, budgets, and prioritize tasks to meet allocated schedule and financials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant (Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering) experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with power conversion design, power analysis, analog circuit simulation, control loops and stabilization.
- Proficiency in analysis with Mathcad Prime, Excel, or similar tools.
- Prolificity with electrical simulation tools such as SPICE or Piecewise-linear modeling tools (SIMPLIS a plus).
- Experience with CAD tools (preferably Mentor Graphics) for schematic entry and layout.
- The individual must be able to work from oral and written instructions, be dependable, positive, assertive, a team player and have a strong desire to succeed.
- Great communications skills to expeditiously coordinate efforts through all phases of the engineering and manufacturing process while contributing to a high-performance team environment to meet customer needs.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
- Experience with common lab equipment (electronic loads, bench power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Ability to obtain a US DoD security clearance is a plus.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-1399, and MIL-STD-461 is a plus.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio software.
- Design experience in military, high-reliability, or other ruggedized industries.
