Job Description:
Responsible for full lifecycle systems engineering support for a range of software and hardware development, assembly, and integration and test efforts for SATCOM communication systems in the Global Networks group.
Lifecycle systems include support of data link systems from conceptual development to product phase-out. This includes proposal support, requirements analysis and management, task planning using Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) outlining, and Cost Account Manager (CAM) duties. Support also includes technical reviews, technical reporting, and documentation. The role involves leading the design and architecture of communications systems, providing technical leadership for DoD programs, and generating technical documentation such as statements of work and specifications.
Essential Functions:
- Systems engineering lead that organizes, participates in, and manages key project/program systems engineering tasks
- Leads requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas of responsibility, and manages traceability of requirements back to customer specifications and system level derived requirements
- Leads design synthesis and generation of supporting design documentation which includes technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications
- Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processes
- Develops and presents project/program design reviews for both internal and external customer audiences
- Understanding of wireless communication theory with working knowledge of digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line-of-sight and satellite communication systems.
- Leads or assists in management over systems engineering team and other teams of functional design engineers
- Must have ability and willingness to work in a collaborative team environment on quick reaction projects and will have regular contact with customers.
- Must have the ability to obtain a secret level clearance, Top Secret preferred
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in (Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or other Engineering discipline) with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience or Graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral) and formal presentation skills are required
- Leadership skills, with the ability to guide the technical direction/vision for a given project. Must also be a strong contributor to Integrated Product Team Leads (IPTL) internal and external to the company.
- Experience and in-depth understanding of SATCOM and Space communication systems
- Experience managing projects that include system integration, system verification, and formal qualification, including supporting integration and qualification events at customer locations
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines
- Experience in requirements management and documentation
- Active Secret or Top-Secret US DoD clearance is strongly preferred.
- Experience in product development (preferably in military application environments)
- IPTL/CAM Professional experience
- Experience in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, DOORs or similar tools
- Experience in risk management, project planning, and technical project management
- Experience with EVMS, IMS, and related project management tools
