Job Description:

 

Product Quality Engineer needed to develop, modify, apply and maintain quality evaluation, control systems and protocols for the build of highly complex electro-optical, electronic & mechanical spaceflight and/or airborne assemblies. Engineer manages and maintains program Quality Assurance activities, and routinely interfaces with Engineering, Management, Customers and Subcontractors. Individual will be heavily involved on-site in monitoring the build, installation and test of software/hardware and integrated systems, will participate in peer reviews for technical and process evaluation, and will lead activities related to review and correction of non-conforming materials or assemblies. This position requires strong influential and collaborative leadership skills, as well as meticulous organizational skills. Individual must have strong initiative, be a self-starter and have a proactive mind-set.  Quality Engineer sets the tone for Quality with his/her manufacturing and engineering counterparts. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Validate processes and products utilizing established quality assurance policies, plans and procedures  
  • Develop and implement audit plans to ensure compliance to internal policies, program requirements and regulatory requirements  
  • Routinely track and analyze data to proactively identify process improvement opportunities and to identify and evaluate quality issues  
  • Lead teams to develop disposition, formally evaluate root cause, and implement corrective and preventative actions.   
  • Regularly interface with customer quality representatives for build and test activities and resolution of issues.    
  • Provide drawing reviews and test procedure reviews to ensure design modifications meet all quality requirements   
  • Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action activities, Material Review Board and Failure Review Board meetings, and participate in Independent Review Board sessions  
  • Manage quality performance across supply chain through supplier assessments, source selection, supplier quality management and implementation of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools.  Establish and maintain quality codes driving procurement support. Travel to suppliers to perform hardware inspections and provide guidance on process improvements.    
  • Contribute to design, production and test of space systems hardware through design reviews, requirements validation and mission/system risk analysis.  
  • Meet financial and business objectives with accurate quality forecasting, executing programs within cost and schedule, resolving problems and driving functional strategic improvements.   

 

Required Qualifications:  

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Skills: 

 

  • Active US Security Clearance
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt preferred.  
  • AS9100/ISO 9001 quality system experience.  
  • Demonstrated experience in development and execution of Manufacturing Engineering Instructions  
  • Test engineering support experience in environmental (TVAC and Vibration) testing  
  • Experience with programming languages and general object-oriented design concepts.  
  • Experience with software development lifecycle models and software quality assurance methods.  
  • Experience with APQP  
  • Machining (Machine/Tool) experience  
  • GD&T and Engineering Drawing Review experience  
  • Knowledge of Composite Structures and Assembly  
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware integration, Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) and Surface Mount Technology (SMT)  
  • Understanding of military specifications as they apply to the electronics industry, reliability requirements of electronic, mechanical and electromechanical equipment and surveillance methods  
  • Familiarity with Configuration Control Management  
  • Experience with performing Failure Analysis (FA) and Construction Analysis (CA), and leading FMEA and Root Cause/Corrective Action activities.  
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement elements  
  • Demonstrated ability to work through root cause analysis  
  • Understanding of quality control methods and processes  
  • General understanding of manufacturing, materials, test and design engineering   
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Program execution and leadership experience  
  • Ability to travel 30+% depending on program needs.   

 

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York state is $71,500 - $132,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
