Job Description:
As a Chief Systems Engineer (CSE), the candidate work collaboratively across the engineering organization to focus on the Requirements Management, Technical Baseline Creation, Review and Approval, Technical Roadmap Creation and aspects of System Engineering process compliance including, but not limited to, process artifact review and approval and Risk Management/Analysis and requirements authoring and management tasks and tools. The candidate will partner closely with Business Development teams, Engineering Project teams and Engineering Discipline Team leads to ensure consistent strategy, direction, and alignment with the Segment Strategic Growth Plan (SGP).
Supervisory tasks include serving as the Team Leader, which entails management of 8 CSEs and Requirements management/administration resources as direct reports. This team is responsible for CSE and CSA (Chief Systems Architecture) tasks on a number of different product lines and systems including the latest multichannel radios as well as a small team responsible for requirements management and administrative responsibilies centered around the DOORs requirements management tools. Supervisory responsibilities include setting annual Performance Objectives and conducting annual Performance Reviews, managing RPM and allocating work assignments, leading staff meetings, and reporting team status to Systems Engineering management.
Essential Functions:
- Perform system design activities for Communication Products and Systems of Products.
- Prepare and conduct and technical baseline reviews and other technical briefings, assess and report technical project status, risks and issues.
- Provide cross-functional technical and process leadership in the execution of multiple IRaD and Program funded projects.
- Oversee product development technical activities to assure designs are technically sound and meet system level requirements.
- Prepare systems requirements, design reviews and documentation per standard development processes.
- Collaborate with other design teams, test, manufacturing, product service, program and product management, and external customers to execute radio product development projects and deliver high-quality system solutions.
- Support front end business development activities including planning, customer visits, technical briefings, and proposal developments.
- Establish strategic working relationships with engineering project managers as well as functional teams and technical leads.
- Provide leadership in the development of technical staff through strategic hiring, mentoring, and training.
- Own and manage the DOORs requirements management team and help the team work with other TCOM engineering groups including IT to maintain a tool set used by hundreds of engineers and support upgrades as neccesary to maintain network security and certification.
- Perform supervisory tasks such as setting Performance Objectives and conducting Performance Reviews, career development, RPM management, allocating work assignments, 1x1’s with direct and skip level reports, and reporting team status to Systems Engineering management.
- Active Security Clearance OR ability to obtain US Secret Security Clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior related Systems Level Design and Integration experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 15 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience partnering with stake holders and team leaders to identify needs and develop marketable Tactical Communication System solutions which provide customer value.
- Experience supervising and managing engineering teams.
- Masters in Systems Engineering or other engineering disciplines (EE, SW, CE) highly preferred.
- Proven and effective communications skills, interpersonal skills and customer focus
- Experience describing complex system solutions to audiences of varying technical backgrounds and establish support/enthusiasm for a proposed solution.
- Experience with DOORS requirements management software
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Active US DoD Secret Clearance or Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Clearance.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $130,500- $242,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
