Job Description:
The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, conformity, and reliability of externally supplied materials, components, and services used in aerospace manufacturing. This role supports supplier qualification, conducts Quality Management System audits, and evaluates supplier processes to ensure compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. The position works closely with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to drive effective quality controls, corrective actions, risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives that support product quality, safety, and delivery performance.
Essential Functions:
Supplier Assessment and Qualification
- Conduct supplier assessments, evaluations, and audits to determine supplier capability and compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
- Support supplier approval, qualification, surveillance, and re-evaluation activities.
- Assess supplier quality systems, manufacturing processes, inspection methods, and process controls.
- Identify supplier risks and recommend approval status or required development actions.
Quality Assurance and Control
- Perform Quality Management System audits in support of AS9100 compliance.
- Verify suppliers maintain effective controls for traceability, configuration management, calibration, nonconformance management, and documentation.
- Review supplier quality performance and monitor corrective action implementation and effectiveness.
- Partner with internal teams to resolve supplier-related quality issues and prevent recurrence.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive supplier quality improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, process capability, and delivery performance.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action activities using structured problem-solving methods.
- Promote continuous improvement of supplier quality systems and manufacturing controls.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure supplier compliance with applicable customer, statutory, regulatory, and aerospace quality requirements.
- Verify implementation of flow-down requirements, product safety practices, and risk-based controls.
- Maintain audit documentation and quality records in accordance with internal procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related quality experience.
- Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license with the ability to travel to east coast supplier locations as much as 60+%.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes and supplier quality controls.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis tools, corrective action methods, and continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams to improve performance and reduce risk.
- Ability to perform work in office and manufacturing environments.
- Strong problem solving, RCCA and investigation experience.
- Ability to synthesize and analyze data from several data sources and develop a plan of action.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a close-knit team environment.
- Strong Computer Skills using Power BI and other database frameworks.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $84,000-$156,000. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $96,000 - $178,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
