Job Description:
L3Harris is looking for a flight test engineer to primarily support our Red Tail UAS family of systems. You will be responsible for planning/coordinating, participating in and leading test events for various unmanned aircraft systems. This position requires a self-starter with leadership qualities and will operate under general oversight.
Essential Functions:
- The ability to work in manufacturing, lab and flight test (field) environments
- Coordination with program leadership and engineering disciplines to establish customer driven flight test objectives
- Generating comprehensive test briefings, plans, quicklooks and reports for stakeholders
- Communicating with various customers and flight test ranges to coordinate test events
- Leading teams of engineers made up of various disciplines in a field environment, to achieve test objectives
- Willingness to travel within and/or outside of the continental United States up to 25% of the time
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. unassisted or 80 lbs. as part of a two-person team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6-9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4-7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10-13 years of prior related experience.
- DOD Secret Clearance.
- 2+ Years of operational testing experience which includes interfacing with test and training ranges, coordinating support equipment and service requests for test events
- 2+ Years of experience operating/maintaining Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
- 2+ Years of operational experience working with FAA and ICAO regulations pertaining to UAS and VFR/IFR flight planning
- Experience using some or all of the following: NGA mapping products, GoogleEarth Pro, Foreflight, commercial UAS mission planning software (ArduPilot, Piccolo)
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with OSHA requirements and ESD best practices
- FAA Pilot License (Private or above)
- Effective communication skills in a collaborative team environment
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in VA area is $100,000 - $185,500 and in TX is $87,000 - $161,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
