Job Description:
Senior Specialist, Quality Engineer has strong knowledge of job and broad knowledge of project management, performs work with general oversight, and may manage large projects or processes that are both inside and outside of the immediate job area. Communicates within and outside of their own function or business area and has responsibilities for communicating with parties external (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.) to the organization. Makes moderate to substantial enhancements or improvements to systems and processes to solve problems and improve performance of job area. Works to achieve operational targets with direct impact on department results.
Essential Functions:
- Utilizes engineering background and expertise to communicate between team members and customer counterparts to provide assurance that the hardware is compliant to specifications. Handles and communicates deviations/ nonconformance at different levels within the organization. Understands and communicates typical aerospace processes (machining, welding, non-destructive testing, etc.) and how they are applied to the hardware being manufactured.
- Applies modern quality principles, concepts, and methods to routine aerospace and manufacturing operation, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
- Interprets engineering drawings and specifications, customer quality requirements, and company quality requirements to ensure compliance with the customer's expectations.
- Implements IMS policies, procedures and standards for Quality Management that drive a preventive, zero defect culture of quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Drives continuous improvements of the quality system and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct root causes analysis and corrective/preventative action (RCCAP) to prevent minor and systemic defects withn processes and programs.
- Evaluates and dispositions customer returns, in-process defects, and address day-to-day quality concerns. Rapidly implementing containment and corrective actions, as applicable.
- Chair Material Review Board and Failure Review Board activities for assigned programs.
- Performs documentation reviews in support of hardware acceptance (HAR) and pre-shipment (PSR) activities.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure quality requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle
- Reviews and interprets new contracts to determine the quality assurance requirements and flow down requirements to the appropriate level.
- Participates in proposals activities to support and consistently drive new business opportunities for the company.
- Own a special process within the manufacturing, test, or quality area while maintaining thorough understanding and knowledge of the process helping to train/work with others in the business.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related Quality experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 4 years of prior related Quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related Quality experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively establish positive working relationships with various operational groups, all levels of employees, suppliers, and customers.
- Understanding of ISO9001/AS9100 and related QMS standards.
- Experience using RCCA tools such as FMEA, Pareto, 5-Why, 8D, and Fishbone.
- Strong drive and sense of ownership.
- Strong knowledge of product development and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T).
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Seattle and Washington State, the salary range for this role is $94,000 - $175,00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
