Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer with a background in mechanical assembly, metal joining and machining. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing plans and processes to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in production. This position requires a proactive and hands-on approach, working collaboratively with teammates and suppliers to address and resolve issues, drive continuous improvements, and uphold our stringent quality standards.
This role requires complete ownership of the manufacturing process from start to finish. We're looking for someone who is highly invested in the processes they oversee and genuinely enjoys getting hands-on with the product. The ideal candidate thrives on the shop floor, takes personal ownership of their manufacturing processes, and finds satisfaction in directly engaging with the hardware and production teams to solve real-world challenges. You must deeply understand not just how to manufacture the product, but the product itself – its design intent, functionality, and critical features – to effectively translate engineering requirements into successful production outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise and a high level of self-motivation.
Essential Functions:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and requirements to translate to process planning that produces conforming hardware.
- Take full ownership of assigned product manufacturing processes, serving as the primary technical authority from initial planning through production delivery.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of product design, functionality, and requirements to ensure manufacturing processes support product performance and quality objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and production, to ensure successful program execution.
- Develop clear, comprehensive, and user-friendly work instructions that technicians can easily follow. Must understand the practical application of work instructions from both the writer's and user's perspective, ensuring documentation effectively bridges engineering intent with shop floor execution.
- Assist, develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, process instructions, manufacturing bills of materials and routings.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices.
- Provide Design for manufacturability and assembly feedback
- May design and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with manufacturing and assembly of space hardware.
- Experience working within ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP.
- Experience working within PLM software to manage parts, assemblies and documentation.
- Proficiency in machining, GD&T and assembly processes.
- Experience with process optimization, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to manufacturing processes.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the State of Washington is $84,000 - $156,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
