Job Description:

Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to space, missile defense, and strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. We are seeking a highly hands-on Tooling Engineer to support our electronic production and test operations.

This is not a desk-only engineering role. We are looking for someone who thrives on the production floor, who has spent years rolling up their sleeves and directly fixing issues as they arise. The ideal candidate is a true problem-solver—someone who is relied upon daily to quickly diagnose and resolve both mechanical and electronic problems with production and test equipment. Our facility depends on this individual’s deep, practical understanding of how each piece of equipment functions, and their ability to keep operations running smoothly.

Essential Functions:

  • Work hands-on in a high-reliability production or test environment to design, support, maintain, and—most importantly—troubleshoot and repair production power electronic and test equipment (from board level through end item test equipment). You will be the go-to expert for solving urgent, complex equipment issues as they arise. Document procedures relevant to the manufacture and use of tools designed. Define specifications for tooling needs.
  • Utilize standard engineering software platforms to develop electrical schematics and drawings. Under general supervision, take designs from concept through release in document control. Design or rework electrical test equipment, cabling, etc.
  • Work with engineering staff to determine cost estimates of tooling or hardware. Interface with internal teams to resolve production test issues.
  • Procure materials and hardware necessary to fabricate tooling, ranging from simple fasteners to exotic materials.
  • Perform design reviews and tool proofs to verify proper form, fit, and function.
  • Work on special improvement projects focused on manufacturing, assembly, or testing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Extensive hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining both mechanical and electronic production/test equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and independently resolve urgent equipment issues on the production floor.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and independently resolve urgent equipment issues on the production floor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve technical problems in a team environment.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Modern Programming experience (LabVIEW, C#, Javascript) is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle preferred)
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • PTC Creo and Unigraphics NX modeling and Drafting Experience.
  • Welding, Machining, Drafting, or Electrical Fabrication Experience.
  • Pneumatic or Hydraulic Testing Experience.
