Job Location: Redmond, WA
Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off
Job Description:
At L3Harris, this role sits at the center of leading complex chemical propulsion efforts from definition through production and test, turning challenging hardware programs into accepted, test-proven deliverables that are ready for space. This is a strong fit for an engineer who thrives on technical ownership, cross-functional execution, and bringing clarity to ambiguous, high-visibility problems. You will work closely with customers, manufacturing, test, quality, suppliers, program management, and business capture teams. You will also lead technical alignment across engineering disciplines to keep hardware, customer deliverables, and program commitments moving. Your impact will be visible in shipped hardware, successful hot-fires, stronger engineering execution, and propulsion systems that reach space, the Moon, and Mars. If you want broad ownership, close teamwork, and the opportunity to lead the work that turns hard problems into thrusters that power real spacecraft, we encourage you to apply.
Essential Functions:
- Lead technical execution of in-space chemical thruster projects through production and test for development, qualification, and commercial programs. Coordinate closely with program management, manufacturing, and test to resolve issues and keep execution on track.
- Drive closure of nonconformances, production issues, and test anomalies with technical rigor and deep understanding of propulsion products. Maintain strong working partnerships with quality and other support functions.
- Lead and review work across engineering disciplines such as systems, structures, thermal, and drawing development. Drive the inputs, reviews, and document completion needed to support customer deliverables, gated reviews, and program commitments.
- Author and review the technical documentation required to move hardware forward. This includes test plans, procedures, reports, anomaly documentation, and end item data packages.
- Lead technical communication with customers on hardware status, issue resolution, test results, and technical recommendations. Partner with program management to maintain strong customer relationships and support successful program execution.
- Prepare and lead formal presentations and reports for customer communication and gated product reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR. Presentations may include technical recommendations, trade studies, issue summaries, and go-forward plans.
- Serve as an engineering point of contact and technical reviewer for proposals. Develop technical inputs, review scope assumptions, and help define executable approaches for applicable engines or hardware efforts.
- Analyze and review hot-fire test data to ensure thrusters conform to product line standards and customer specifications. Support testing in-person when needed and provide timely technical judgment within established bounds.
- Lead improvements to engineering workflows, document quality, review rigor, or execution processes that improve the team's ability to deliver hardware and customer commitments.
- Provide technical guidance, coordination, and day-to-day leadership to less experienced engineers within the project engineering team or across adjacent disciplines as needed.
- No routine travel is expected for this role.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience; or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 6+ years experience supporting development, production, integration, qualification testing, or delivery of complex hardware in aerospace, marine, or similar high-reliability engineering environments.
- 4+ years experience leading complex technical work or project execution across multiple functions in a hardware environment.
- Strong technical foundation and ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines. This includes reviewing and integrating technical inputs from areas such as systems, structures, thermal, and design documentation.
- 6+ years experience authoring and reviewing technical documentation such as procedures, reports, data packages, dispositions, and engineering presentations.
- Ability to take ownership of ambiguous problems, quickly assess evolving requirements and customer feedback, and determine next steps needed to move hardware forward.
- Proven ability to gain cooperation across organizations, align technical contributors, and deliver results in a fast-paced, technically complex setting.
- Strong technical communication with customers, leadership, and cross-functional teams in a fast-moving hardware environment.
- 4+ years of experience with in-space chemical propulsion product, development, or hot-fire testing.
- 4+ years of experience presenting technical data to upper or executive-level management and/or external customers.
- 4+ years of experience with anomaly investigation, nonconformance disposition, and root cause analysis that had significant business impacts.
- 4+ years of experience with corrective action or out-of-plan manufacturing support in a hardware environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with propellant and material compatibility, contamination-sensitive hardware handling, and spacecraft propulsion integration practices.
- Demonstrated leadership in negotiating conflicting priorities while providing product/process expertise in multi-disciplinary project teams.
