Job Description:
As a member of the Engineering staff, the Senior Specialist will work with minimal direction and exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to developing, qualifying, and producing electric thrusters for space flight missions. They will guide the successful completion of major projects and may function as a program technical team leader. The Engineering Senior Specialist will act as an external spokesperson for the organization on matters pertaining to electric propulsion. They will serve as a technical authority and provide guidance and training to less experienced personnel.
Essential Functions:
- 50% - Plans, prepares for, and supports production and testing of electric thrusters.
- 30% - Uses engineering and scientific principles to prevent, investigate, and resolve hardware and process anomalies.
- 10% - Leads research and development of advanced thrusters and processes including design and engineering analyses.
- 10% - Leads project or program teams to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and enterprise objectives.
- Job may require travel to U.S. electric propulsion test facilities for up to 10 weeks per year.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
- A Bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline is preferred.
- This position requires technical expertise in electric propulsion and knowledge of related disciplines.
- The candidate should have experience with electric propulsion hardware and test.
- The successful candidate will possess an understanding of plasma physics and material science and their practical application to electric thruster design and operation.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the State of Washington is $104,500 - $193,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
