Job Description:
The Program Chief Engineer manages program engineering resources, ensures the thoroughness, adequacy, and urgency of technical decisions and anomaly investigations, works with the program manager and contract manager to maintain strong customer communication and relations, supports program management and affordability initiatives, and provides technical coordination across all elements of the program both internally and externally. The Program Chief Engineer collaborates with multiple disciplines inside the company and with the customer to deliver products to make their mission possible, successful, and cost effective.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and/or support program technical activities required to design, assemble and test program hardware to meet customer requirements and verify suitability for the intended use.
- Provide broad-based engineering leadership to achieve program objectives while ensuring technical excellence, product performance, and customer confidence.
- Assure compliance to company policy and procedures (including standard work) within all program technical support activities.
- Maintain technical excellence and consistency in planning (Design Development Plans), execution (Technical Decision Making, Design and Hardware Reviews), and product ownership.
- Lead failure investigations/root cause analysis activities as required. Provide feedback and interaction to show our customer that L3Harris is the best value supplier for their needs.
- Support program change proposal activities, including change identification and management, program change board, proposal basis of estimate and technical writeup, fact-finding and negotiations, and program re-baselining.
- Maintain close and professional relationships with peers and senior management at L3Harris’ customer.
- Support regular and as needed customer meetings to communicate program progress, risks and mitigation strategies, issues and recovery plans, interfaces and system requirements, and mission success.
- Work proactively with the program management team to address resource conflicts.
- Travel is required, as needed, within the United States to customers and suppliers - up to 10%.
- Ability to obtain a US LEVEL security clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior related engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Background in Electric Propulsion highly preferred.
- A general knowledge of related disciplines such as material science, thermal and structural analysis, reliability and maintainability, systems engineering, spacecraft integration, and mission planning.
- Applicant must have a good understanding and demonstrated practice of root cause and corrective action methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and high quality written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Washington is $127,500 - $236,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
L3Harris announced on January 5th, that AE Industrial Partners (“AE Industrial”) has agreed to acquire a controlling interest in L3Harris’ Space Propulsion and Power Systems business. This position has been identified as one that will transition to the new standalone company upon closing of the transaction. Until that time, L3Harris will continue its hiring activity within this business.
