Job Description:

We are looking for a Manufacturing Technician that will be responsible for performing functions associated with all manufacturing operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks, as well as performing rework, troubleshooting, and quality testing related to the production of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct on-line adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment. Determines and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process.

Essential Functions:

  • Electronic and mechanical assembly using work instructions, MSE direction and print specifications.
  • Perform electronic and mechanical assembly functions.
  • Electro-optic cable terminations and jointing, sub-surface communications cable management and electronics assembly.
  • Tasks may require fiber optic splicing, potting mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, may include soldering of electrical and electronic assemblies
  • Perform coarse and fine adjustments requiring the use of hand tools, precision measuring devices and other specialized equipment including, but not limited to vacuum equipment, digital indicators, optical microscopes, height gages, Vernier gages, micrometers, and electronic testing fixtures
  • Seeking an individual contributor to provide skilled support on the assembly of potting, electro-mechanical and fiber optic assemblies.
  • Handle, inspect, clean, and prepare delicate and sensitive optical components and assemblies
  • Familiar with the function of and use a broad range of electrical/electronic and mechanical parts and components such as fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, epoxies, crimping etc.
  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Work with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and different types of equipment such as fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools.
  • Guide, coach and mentor less experienced team members; be a positive role model for the team.
  • Participates in program or functional team projects developing process improvement methods, solutions, and procedures to enhance program quality, cost, and scheduling.
  • Assist with implementing and sustaining the 5S+1 program to ensure that work areas and equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly condition, and all safety regulations are observed; report and correct any unsafe work practices or conditions immediately to supervisor or EH&S.
  • Attend daily departmental GEMBA meetings, updating board contents, following up with acting and measuring effectiveness also performance.
  • Assists in determining the need for tooling, testing tooling, testing equipment and making recommendations for the design and planning of required tools and equipment.
  • Willing to travel <10% of the calendar year.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with Technical School Training or equivalent a plus, work experience required with minimum of 6 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with sub-surface communication optical cable, potting, fiber optics, electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Individual should possess strong interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship
  • Willingness to wear all required PPE and follow all safety requirements.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with fiber handling and splicing.
  • Knowledge and the ability to read and interpret prints and schematics.
