Join our Maritime Global Systems team and play a key role in delivering next-generation digital maritime solutions across vessels and offshore assets worldwide. We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer with experience in C++ development and exposure to Ruby to join our growing ASV Software Engineering team. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, integration, and sustainment of software solutions supporting maritime autonomy, collision avoidance systems, and other mission-critical applications. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, the role will support both current programmes and future technology development initiatives, including IRAD activities and customer-funded projects. The position offers the opportunity to work across the full software lifecycle while contributing to innovative maritime technologies.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Design, develop and maintain software applications using C++ and Ruby.
  • Support Collision Avoidance (CA), autonomy and other maritime software development activities.
  • Contribute to software architecture, implementation, integration, testing and sustainment activities.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, UX designers, QA engineers and product stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Participate in Agile software development processes, including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Utilise JIRA and related development tools to manage tasks and track progress.
  • Contribute to Qt-based user interface development where required.
  • Develop and support software solutions within Linux (RHEL 8) environments.
  • Support IRAD activities, prototyping, technology development and future customer programmes.
  • Work closely with integration and test teams to resolve issues and support programme delivery.

 

What you’ll bring 

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional experience in C++ software development.
  • Experience with Ruby development or willingness to develop Ruby expertise.
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams.
  • Familiarity with JIRA or similar issue tracking and project management tools.
  • Experience working within Linux environments, preferably RHEL 8.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and technical domains.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with the Qt framework for GUI development.
  • Understanding of UX principles and user-centred design.
  • Experience with maritime software systems, autonomy or collision avoidance technologies.
  • Experience with embedded or real-time software development.
  • Experience supporting IRAD or research and development activities.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing approaches.
