Job Description:
During its 120-year history, L3Harris has transformed communications and information technology. L3Harris is a proven leader in tactical communications, geospatial systems and services, air traffic management, environmental solutions, avionics and electronic warfare, and space and intelligence. From ocean to orbit and everywhere in between, we provide mission-critical solutions to connect, inform and protect the world.
On the L3Harris team, your job is to secure the world. We don't work here just for the advanced technology and equipment: we work here because we know what - and who - we're protecting! From families to the intelligence community, and from our climate to our men and women in uniform - we're making the world a safer place!
Essential Functions:
We are looking for a driven robotics engineer to design, implement and test robotic systems for operation in challenging and dynamic real world environments. Work performed would be in close coordination with mechanical design, electrical, and software teams to refine manipulation, perception and autonomy capabilities to improve overall system performance. Candidate's efforts will increase the capabilities and reliability of a robotic payload on multiple platforms.
The role involves development, implementation, and testing of robotic motion and control algorithms with an emphasis for use on mobile platforms. The candidate will update existing motion control algorithms and software with new capabilities to reach state of the art performance levels. The candidate will be involved in development from the brainstorming phase, through design and prototyping, to lab and field testing on hardware. The candidate will work in close coordination with other subsystems (e.g. perception processing). Ability to test early and often through configuring or developing necessary simulation and laboratory environments will be critical to candidate and program success. An ideal candidate would have general robotics experience in some or all of the following: kinematics/dynamics, motion control/planning, robotic manipulation, robotic sensors/actuators, simulation environments, and a propensity towards viewing the larger system needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain a TS/SCI or higher level US security clearance (Active clearance is not required to start)
- 3+ years of experience working on the design of robotic systems
- Mathematics of rotations (rotation matrices, quaternions, Euler angles, etc.)
- Basics of Control Theory
- Prior or current professional experience working with Kinematics/Dynamics
- Professional experience with the following software tools:
- Matlab
- C++
- Git
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Current TS/SCI clearance with favorable Poly
- Experience with Pub/Sub communications architectures (e.g. DDS or ROS2)
- Robot Operating System (ROS)
- Gazebo Simulator, Nvidia Omniverse/Isaac Simulator, MuJoCo, or similar
- Familiarity with sensing and/or computer vision methodologies
- System Modeling / System Identification
- Experience with robotic manipulation
- Optimizations, numerical methods, filtering (e.g. EKF)
- AI/ML experience
- Understanding of common robotic sensors
- Understanding of Homogeneous Transformations (Coordinate Frame Transformations)
