Job Description:
The L3 Harris company is seeking motivated and talented electromagnetic effects E3 (TEMPEST) test and design engineers to join the L3 Harris EMI/TEMPEST electrical design engineering core group.

The TEMPEST test/design engineer will be responsible for developing procedures, plans, and the execution of various TEMPEST design activities for a multitude of systems ranging from submersible to space platforms recognized around the world. The TEMPEST engineer may also support niche field related to Multipaction, Corona Discharge, and EMI/EMC on products being developed throughout L3Harris. This position is for an experienced level engineering professional with a highly inquisitive desire to develop technical expertise in the TEMPEST field.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop new solutions and to grow as the next generation of TEMPEST and EMI/EMC engineers with a career path leading to the submittal of candidacy in the L3 Harris technical fellowship program.
Essential Functions:
• Primary job responsibilities will include:
• Perform TEMPEST Test, design and analysis of systems using HFSS and other software packages.
• Coordinate test and verify EMI / TEMPEST design requirements with teammates, customers, and system architects through the development and sustainment of various L3 Harris systems.
• Develop control plans, test procedures, and test reports.
• Perform design analysis and implementation mitigation mechanisms to ensure EMI/EMC and TEMPEST compliance.
• Evaluation of design drawings to verify and correct system design to MIL-STD-461 and NSTISSAM 1-92 standards.
• Other job responsibilities may include:
• Review supplier and partner qualification data for electromagnetic compatibility
• Develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electrical electronic systems, mechanical systems interconnect and structures.
• Perform TEMPEST, EMI/EMC nuclear hardening, HIRF, Lightning, RF co-site and antenna coupling analysis and test.
• Apply EMI/TEMPEST engineering technology experience to document and solve complex problems.
• Perform trade studies modeling simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component interconnects and system performance and to optimize design.
Qualifications:
• Requires a currently active NSA TEMPEST CTP-I or CTP-II certification.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Physics or Engineering Physics Technology and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
• Minimum US DOD SECRET Clearance required.
Preferred Additional Skills:
• International Association for Radio Telecommunications and Electromagnetics (iNARTE) EMI/EMC engineer certification
• Must be familiar with electromagnetic concepts such as RF isolation, shielding, grounding and filtering. Must have familiarization of RF and measurement instrumentation such as receivers, antennas, analyzers and amplifiers.
• Must be willing to travel as required.
• 1 or more years related EMI/TEMPEST work experience or an equivalent of combined education and experience.
• Proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management.
