Job Description:
The Principal Specialist, System Safety Engineer will provide technical leadership for safety analyses across Airborne Solutions programs, including cockpit displays, mission processors, and sensors. Typical tasks include hazard analysis, causal analysis, risk assessment, safety program planning, and reporting.
Essential Functions:
- Lead hazard analysis, causal analysis, hazard tracking, and safety risk assessment IAW MIL-STD-882E, ARP4754A, and ARP4761
- Working knowledge of DO-178 and DO-254 development processes
- Lead development of System Safety Program Plans, Hazard Analyses, and Safety Assessment Reports
- Lead and present system safety risk assessments at customer design review meetings
- Present safety cases to WSESRB, FISTRP and/or SSSTRP
- Consult with other engineering staff to evaluate interfaces between hardware, software, and operational performance requirements of the overall system.
- Strong oral/written communication and customer interface skills
- Prepare work estimates, schedule inputs and metric data to project management
- Work closely with Government customers to ensure that the System Safety requirements are defined and implemented in a way that will allow for the verification and validation of the system
- Document System Safety artifacts in DOORS and/or Cameo
- Willing to travel to customer sites when required.
- Ability to obtain US Government clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Secret Clearance
- Senior-level system safety and design experience in software, electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Systems, Software, Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering
- STAMP/STPA
- Software Safety development per DoD Joint Software System Safety Handbook, STANAG 4404, AMCOM 385-17 or AOP 52
- Reporting hazardous materials (NAS-411)
- Assessing Human Machine Interfaces per MIL-STD-1472
- General Reliability practices (FMEA, FMECA, FTA, FRACAS and RCCA)
- Requirements development and flow-down
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1924
- Certified Safety Professional
