Job Description:

We are seeking an Electronic Packaging / Mechanical Designer to work with a cross-functional team to develop Avionics systems. The position will follow the product from conceptualization through hardware integration and testing, and will interface with Designers, Thermal/Structural Analysts, Systems Engineers, as well as other engineering disciplines, Program Managers, and customer counterparts. As a designer you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the product data through PLM and CAD tools within the appropriate processes and controls, and will be responsible for enacting changes with direction from program and other engineering functions.  This role is expected to become a subject matter expert of process and must be able to manage large, complex project models of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction. Communication will be within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches. You will make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products and provide input into new products/processes that have measurable impact on business or functional results.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain solid models aligned with L3Harris processes
  • Develop documentation (drawings, etc.) as part of a products data
  • Implement changes to a products data based on guidance from the program team
  • Assist program teams in major milestones (reviews)
  • Assist programs in task development as appropriate
  • Assist the development of proposals
  • Manage large and complex CAD models and their corresponding data
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance
  • Create complex mechanical designs and execute layouts for multiple products.
  • Demonstrated ability in packaging electrical components such as Circuit Cards, Connectors, and cables, including design in rugged environments including ground, avionics and/or space.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical designs.
  • Support the mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of designs.
  • Support the development of relevant design control documentation.
  • Interact with outside vendors to source parts.
  • Experience in the design of additive manufactured parts, machined parts, weldments, sheet metal parts, and cable assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain US Government Clearance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 3+ years of professional experience using PTC CREO
  • Professional experience using Oracle Agile PLM or PTC Windchill
  • Professional experience using GD&T
  • Professional experience working within Aerospace design environments
  • Experience with standard ASME Y14.5M-1994 and GD&T
  • Experience packaging electronics including design for and testing to military environments (i.e. temperature, vibration, shock, etc.)
  • Prior experience packaging electronics for use in avionics platforms is strongly desired
  • Professional experience using configuration management and product data management processes
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience.
  • Experience with machined part design.
  • Experience with plastic and/or sheet metal part design.
