Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Migration Lead to join our Digital Transformation team. This role is a critical component of our strategic initiative to implement an enterprise-wide Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
This individual will be responsible for the end-to-end strategy, planning, and execution of data cleansing and migration from multiple legacy engineering systems. The lead will work at the intersection of engineering, IT, and program management to ensure that all critical engineering data—such as CAD models, Bill of Materials (BOMs), parts, and technical documents—is accurately profiled, cleansed, transformed, and loaded into the new PLM environment with minimal disruption to the business.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and own comprehensive data migration strategy and detailed execution plan. This includes defining the scope, timelines, resources, tools, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead the analysis of data from all source systems to identify data structures, interdependencies, quality issues, and obsolescence.
- Establish data quality rules and standards in collaboration with engineering business owners. Oversee and drive the data cleansing activities, coordinating with data stewards to resolve data anomalies, duplicates, and inconsistencies before migration.
- Define the methodology for extracting data from legacy systems.
- Lead the development of data mapping rules to transform legacy data into the target data model.
- Manage the execution of all data loading activities, including the development and testing of migration scripts and tools.
- Design and manage all data migration test cycles, including unit testing, mock migrations, and final production cutover. Lead the data validation efforts with business users to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness in the new system.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all data migration activities. Lead and mentor a matrixed team of data analysts, developers, and business-unit subject matter experts.
- Provide regular, clear status reports on migration progress, risks, and issues to program leadership. Ensure all migration activities adhere to program governance and IT standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field) and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
- Experience with data models, schemas, and architecture.
- Experience with complex engineering data constructs, including Parts & Classification, Bills of Materials (BOMs), CAD data (e.g., Creo, Solidworks), Engineering Change Management (ECOs, ECNs), and supplier/vendor data.
- Experience with ETL methodologies and tools (e.g., SQL, scripting languages, and dedicated migration software).
- Experience in data quality management, data profiling, and data cleansing techniques.
- Experience leading a technical team.
- Project management experience and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical business leaders.
- Experience in the Aerospace & Defense or a similar regulated, high-tech manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with the engineering toolchains that create the source data (e.g., CAD, ALM, and systems modeling tools).
- Proficiency in ETL methodologies and tools (e.g., SQL, scripting languages, and dedicated migration software).
- TS/SCI Clearance
