Job Title: Lead, Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Design PLM Lead)
Job Code: 30217
Job Location: Palm Bay, FL
Job Description:
Join us at the forefront of digital innovation. We are seeking a visionary Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead the strategy and implementation of our Mechanical Design PLM ecosystem. This is not just a technical role; it is a leadership position charged with revolutionizing how we design, build, and deliver the next generation of mission-critical systems.
You will be the principal designer for the mechanical engineering domain within our PLM transformation. You will define the digital thread, connecting everything from initial requirements and model-based designs to manufacturing and sustainment. By partnering with leaders across Engineering, IT, and Operations, you will build a seamless, data-driven environment that accelerates innovation and ensures flawless execution.
Essential Functions:
- Lead technical workshops with mechanical engineers and designers to map existing processes, identify pain points, and gather requirements for the new PLM environment.
- Collaborate with IT architects to define system configurations, data models, and integration pathways between PLM, CAD, ERP, and MES systems.
- Develop and document best practices, standard operating procedures, and governance for mechanical design data management, change management, and component lifecycle states within the new system.
- Oversee user acceptance testing (UAT) cycles, create test scripts, and work with SMEs to validate that system functionality meets business requirements.
- Mentor and guide a matrixed team of engineers and discipline experts, acting as the primary point of contact for all mechanical design-related PLM activities.
- Present project status, milestones, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and program stakeholders.
- Digital Ecosystem Architecture: Assess the current state of our tools and processes to architect a future-state digital environment. Design and implement the discipline-specific business processes and configurations within the PLM platform.
- Digital Thread Integration: Drive the technical integration of key systems to create a cohesive digital thread. This includes interfacing PLM with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
- Process Transformation & Modernization: Champion the adoption of advanced, model-based methodologies. Mature our engineering capabilities to significantly reduce defects and rework, improve engineering productivity, and accelerate program timelines.
- Strategic Project Leadership: Develop, own, and manage the comprehensive project plan for the mechanical engineering workstream. Ensure alignment with the organization's strategic vision, manage resources effectively, and maintain budgetary control.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence: Serve as the primary liaison between the mechanical engineering community and the broader digital transformation program. Coordinate with Engineering Centers of Excellence, Sector Chief Engineers, and IT to ensure implementations are technically sound and achieve mission success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field) and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
- Expertise in leading large-scale PLM implementation, development, or migration projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering design processes, configuration management principles, and product data management.
- Experience with a major PLM platform and its integration with major MCAD tools.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Direct, hands-on experience leading PLM implementation
- Deep familiarity with the specific challenges and requirements of the Aerospace & Defense (A&D) industry.
- Proven success in leading process transformation and rationalization initiatives that delivered measurable business value.
- Experience architecting integrations between PLM and other enterprise systems (ERP, MES, ALM).
- A solid understanding of Configuration Management standards.
- Exceptional ability to use data and metrics to build compelling business cases, influence senior leadership, and drive consensus across diverse and sometimes conflicting teams.
