Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a talented Lead Manufacturing Engineer to support the manufacturing of Space Hardware and processes. The hardware produced at this location is complex, containing circuit card assemblies (CCAs), microelectronics assemblies, cable harnesses, and higher-level system assemblies. The person filling this position will focus on manufacturing engineer support and development for manufacturing various space complex hardware and RF applications. In-depth familiarity with all aspects of circuit card assembly design and fabrication will be highly beneficial in this position.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage daily logistics and workflow, interfacing with design, mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure maximized manufacturing and test throughput developing build strategies
  • Provide manufacturing technicians with guidance, coaching and training
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Design and develop manufacturing tools, strategies, and systems with a focus on mistake proofing
  • Create manufacturing fixture using in-house Additive Manufacturing processes and resources
  • Generating and updating Assembly Method Sheets (AMS) and directing support personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing tasks
  • Provide and implement continuous improvement ideas to drive out waste while increasing safety and quality
  • Interfacing with complex hardware including circuit card assemblies (CCAs), microelectronic assemblies, cable harnesses, and higher-level system assemblies
  • Monitor defect trends, support and implement process improvements through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead lean/process improvement initiatives of technical and operational nature
  • Support and lead root cause and corrective action processes
  • Work alongside Quality, Test, and Reliability Engineering functions to achieve common program and operational goals
  • Review/approve drawing and parts lists revision updates and incorporate such changes
  • Prioritize and execute in an environment of many concurrent tasks/responsibilities
  • Actively participate in Failure Review Board (FRB) investigations.
  • Read and understand Assembly Drawings.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
  • Monitor production processes for efficiency, throughput, and safety improvements.
  • Provide advanced technical support to solve problems through process improvements related to manufacturing products.
  • Interface with design and manufacturing engineers to ensure hardware producibility, developing build strategies.
  • Design and develop manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems.

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires comprehensive level knowledge of job area. May have in-depth knowledge of project management. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Hold an Active Security Clearance or ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance (TS/SCI)
  • Experience working on circuit card assemblies (CCAs)

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechanical, and or Manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with soldering and working with delicate electronic components.
  • Working knowledge of IPC/J-STD, Space Addendum workmanship requirements.
  • Experience in Lean principles; mistake proofing, 3P, 5S+1, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Root Cause Analysis, Cause & Effect, Gemba, Pull-Flow, SPC, FMEA, etc. 
  • Proficiency with Control or similar MRP-based systems, and Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellence in solving problems as they occur, recommending and implementing improvements related to the production process.
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD and/or Pro-E, technical writing, MS Project and/or MS SharePoint.
  • Ability to manage resources and multiple priorities while interacting with individuals at all levels within the organization and customers as required.
  • Experience with CCA manufacturing processes and background in Manufacturing of space and/or avionic electronics for Military and Government Systems
  • In-depth knowledge of project management
