Job Description:  

Specialty Engineering Materials & Processes Support Technician qualified to develop and execute evaluation and testing of metallic, non-metallic, and composite materials used in Aerospace and Defense programs.

  • Work with Materials & Processes engineers to develop and perform destructive and non-destructive techniques which include material property testing, analytical methods, failure analysis, and surface preparation
  • Responsibilities include interfacing with internal customers to assist in the selection, evaluation, and application of numerous materials and processes relevant to the technical activities of L3Harris
  • Contribute ideas for new process development or process improvements.
  • Work is hands-on in a lab environment involving manufacturing process development of structural/non-structural bonding, coating, molding applications

Essential Functions: 

  • Metallurgical and electronic component cross-sectioning and polishing include sample preparation, potting, etching, and microscopy.
  • Adhesive bonding includes surface preparation, cleaning, chemical etch, and application of coating systems.
  • Over molding and potting for cables.  Design of molds.
  • Drawing interpretation per ASME Y14.100
  • Working with internal customer teams in a development lab and development type environment
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment, sharing knowledge and insights, and assisting colleagues with their work when necessary.
  • Time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
  • Working with minimal supervision and high degree of initiative
  • Working with and around hazardous chemicals
  • Assisting in routine laboratory operations

Qualifications:

  • Requires fully proficient job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
  • 2+ years of experience with cross-sectioning, polishing, surface preparation, chemical etch, and priming

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Competency in MS Office Suite and proficiency in documenting procedures
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
