Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a self-directed, experienced Engineering Technician D to assist in the prototype and development of electronic hardware builds in a hands-on engineering laboratory. This position focuses on supporting prototype, first article, and low volume manufacturing of communications-based hardware, including cables and Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs). The role includes providing feedback on design and process improvements through cycles of rapid learning and development.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to communicate issues, draft technical procedures, and review designs within specified areas to meet project and program deadlines.
- Operate in a dynamic and interactive team environment within a rapid development laboratory.
- Independently perform and lead various assembly tasks, including surface mount technology using a pick and place machine or harness and cable builds, ensuring adherence to required tolerances and customer specifications.
- Interpret and follow moderately complex sketches, schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and provide feedback on assembly drawings, BOMs, engineering change orders, process control instructions, and detailed work instructions.
- Conduct hardware kit verification.
- Perform hand soldering of surface-mount technology (SMT), through-hole, and fine-pitch components.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and assembly operations, utilizing specialized equipment such as Pick-and-Place machines, solder paste printing, and reflow ovens.
- 2 years’ experience conducting work using a microscope.
- 2 years’ experience working independently in a small lab environment, interacting and collaborating with other functions.
- Experience writing procedures and assisting others with hardware manufacturing operations.
- JSTD 001 solder and rework certification.
- IPC 610A certification.
- IPC 620 certification.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
