Job Description:

The Systems Engineering Director will own and drive the systems engineering discipline within the Space Systems Sector. The Systems Engineering Director will drive the systems engineering vision, technical training, mentoring, process, tools, technical synergy across all three divisions within Space Systems. This role will have indirect leadership of ~800 systems engineers across space systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate as the main interface for systems engineering for Space Systems to the Segment and CHQ engineering offices.
  • Impact programs through independent review teams, non-advocate reviews, root cause corrective action and special assignments. These responsibilities cover all phases of development from pre-award concept and initial architecture, through design, testing and verification, and on to production, deployment, operational acceptance and operations.
  • Deep systems engineering expertise including experience with Systems of Systems architecture, model based systems engineering, optimizing systems engineering processes and tools
  • Experience on full satellite end-to-end program execution and deliveries and/or proven track record of deliveries on equivalently complex and high assurance systems
  • Executive messaging and presentation skills
  • Proven successful leadership of multi-functional teams to deliver mission solutions in different parts of the program lifecycle (Examples: capture, design prime systems, complex / large platform Integration and Test, delivery, production, etc.)

                                                                   

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 15 years of prior relevant experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 5+ years of large-team management experience, leading a team >50 resources including indirect leadership very large teams (500+).
  • 10+ years experience executing programs as a systems engineer including (Project engineering, System engineering, Integration and Test).
  • Ability to quickly understand missions, customer sets, drive execution and strategy.
  • Financial acumen (CAM, PE, PM experiences are a plus)
  • Experience in technical issue resolution, ability to ensure root cause is identified.
  • Experience and proven record of deep diving into program engineering plans to affect positive financial outcomes. Examples: Engineering Cost Reviews, Pricings, Risk databases, Systems plans, I&T plans, other functional plans, etc. to reduce chances of EAC writeoffs and increase chances of successful execution within schedule and budget.  
  • Ability to plan and execute internal investment strategy.
  • Experience successfully executing multi-division engineering efforts.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $160,000-$297,000. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State, New York City, the salary range for this role is $184,000-$341,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
